What a day! With Charleston losing to George Mason, we are now down to our final undefeated team: Hawai’i. There is a reason that they have been the #1 team (coaches and media) since the beginning of the season. They have also regained the best point differential per match at +19.2. Not only do they win, but they score (on average) 19 more total points than their opponent. That might start to change as their schedule really starts to heat up for the next several weeks.
Unsurprisingly, the MIVA has gotten even more interesting (which is impressive). Loyola has a strong position at 6-0 right now (and a 13-2 overall record), but Ball State, Ohio State, and Lindenwood are all tied for second place. Lindenwood’s epic performance to beat Ohio State in 5 perfectly encapsulated the MIVA this season. These teams are exceptional and you can’t count them out until the final whistle. (And no, the 5th set score is not a typo. )
Only 3 matches today, but they are interesting. With Will Rottman back for Stanford, they will look to sweep the season series against USC. We also have Daemen looking to continue their NEC dominance. Finally, the #2 team in the country has a tough challenge against an incredibly talented UC Irvine squad. UCLA won away and has a larger edge at home, but those Anteaters cannot be underestimated.
