Stat-defying Win for the Cougars
The UCLA/BYU box score is something you have to see to believe.
Let's start with the big upset: BYU outlasts UCLA in five! The box score for this one is truly bonkers. I could only catch a little bit of the match, so I am interested in rewatching this so that these numbers have some context.
The Bruins led in all major categories except aces. They outhit BYU by .100, ended the match with a .491 hitting percentage, and somehow lost. When you look at the hitting per set, it gets even more confusing!
UCLA was never outhit in a single set. Think about that for a second. Every set, UCLA's hitting percentage was at least as high as BYU's. This might be one of the most surprising box scores I have seen.
