VBelo: The Rerun Episode
Sometimes you just have to bring back some good stuff, because there is not enough time to make better stuff.
We are keeping it brief today. Sometimes the life schedule just works like that. Instead of something brand new, I wanted to highlight some past posts that might be of interest. Don’t worry, I will be back next week with something hot and fresh out the kitchen.
Rankings Update
VBelo Rankings
Long Beach is starting to create a create some space at the front of the pack. I think Loyola being right on the heals of Hawaii is a really fascinating development.
Also, it is worth noting that these ratings probably move slower than some might think. Penn State is a decent example here. They started the season in the upper tier of season, based on their strong multi-year history of winning often. When they went into a bit of a tailspin to start 2025, they are still 11th, but they have lost over 200 VBelo points. To date, Penn is down 223 VBelo points. The next closest team is Saint Francis who is done 159 points.
Coaches’ Poll
Long Beach will be #1 until they lose. Even with a loss, I won’t be shocked if they are still ranked #1. Also, this week we learned that a 1-7 team can still be ranked. Yup. I can’t complain too much, because the model still has them at 11 (for now).

AVCA Player of the Week: Parker Van Buren (Outside Hitter, Loyola)
Loyola is getting good at making these graphics. They now have 2 of the 5 POW awards this season. This team is underrated. There, I said it.
Triple-Double Watch 2025: I still think Moni Nikolov is our best chance at a triple double. He now has 5 straight matches with double digits attack.
As a resident of Hawaii, it is great to see the University of Hawaii's young team do as well as they have been (LS, TT, AR, OH, FK, JT..., and Tread Rosenthal is said to be the youngest member age-wise of this team!). The future, including the rest of this season, seems very bright for the Bows. As a UCSB graduate, well... No offense (pun somewhat intended) but look at the volleyball histories for several of the schools ranked ahead of them vs. the volleyball history and past success of UCSB (I was there as a student spectator for all of the Rudy Suwara-led years [the Gauchos were in three NCAA Final Fours (1971, 1972, and 1974)].
