Since today is a holiday, I am going to keep it brief. We had 2 solid matches yesterday that both featured an EIVA team. Charleston’s strong defense kept D’Youville contained. The Golden Eagles out blocked the Saints 8-3 and out-dug them 31-25. Charleston also had the only ace of the match (shoutout to Veit Bils). George Mason, the other EIVA team, did not fair as well against Ohio State. The Buckeyes were able to clean up their service errors a bit (22 SE in 4 sets) and dominated in blocks (21-10). GMU fought hard and took sets 3 and 4 to extras, but in the end Ohio State’s duo of Pasteur and Clark was just too much.
I need to issue a correction from yesterday’s newsletter. I had stated that D’Youville was looking to bounce back after loss, but in fact their previous match was a win. Thank you to those who caught that and my apologies to the Saints. I fixed the archived copy of the newsletter but the email that you received did not have correct information. If you ever spot anything that looks off, go ahead and let know. I am far from perfect so I will make mistakes from time to time. Thank you in advance for your forgiveness.
Today we only have two matchup again. Emmanuel will continue their West Coast trip by facing The Master’s (#11 preseason ranking in NAIA). Less than 50 miles away, #5 Pepperdine will look to stay undefeated on the season while the Princeton Tigers want to snap their early 2-match losing streak.
