3 Quick Observations
We’re Going Up, Up, Up - The top seven teams all gained elo in the past 7 days. The model actually moves slower at the end of the season, so expect one-sided wins to count even less than earlier in the year. For those closer matches, like #1 UCLA and #3 (VBelo) Pepperdine going at it this week, there is still the opportunity to make a splash in the rankings.
It’s Our Moment - Penn State and Belmont Abbey are positioned well for the postseason. They will enter their respective conference tournaments as favorites, baring something wild happening. If they both make the national tournament (and I think they should), they have the ability to pull off an upset. Keep an eye on these two teams.
Gonna Be, Gonna Be, Golden - Just because they don’t get an automatic spot in the NCAA tournament, doesn’t mean we can ignore the great volleyball in the ECC, GLVC, and IVA. There are great battles in all of these conferences for the top spot and these tournaments are going to be great.
