Outrigger Invitational Interviews

Yesterday's Scores

Outrigger Invitational

Championship Match

#5 Southern California (23%) def. #3 Hawai'i (77%)
3-1 (25-21, 25-20, 26-28, 25-21)

Dillon Klein may not be human. Not only was he named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, but he finished the night with 21 kills and just 1 error for a .588% hitting percentage. The one hitting error didn’t happen until the 4th set. Just mind-blowing!

3rd Place Match

#12 Ball State (50%) def. #19 Penn State (50%)
3-2 (25-20, 20-25, 25-12, 20-25, 15-10)

A 50-50 match going to 5! This is really one of my favorite things. Ball State, using yet another new lineup this weekend, held off the Nittany Lions to claim 3rd place in the tournament.

ConfCarolinas

Emmanuel (42%) def. King (58%)
3-1 (25-23, 25-22, 17-25, 27-25)

Erskine (76%) def. Lees-McRae (24%)
3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-23)

Barton (65%) def. North Greenville (35%)
3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-19)

Mount Olive (61%) def. Belmont Abbey (39%)
3-0 (31-29, 25-21, 25-20)

MIVA

#16 Ohio State (89%) def. Queens (11%)
3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 25-20)

Lindenwood (88%) def. Quincy (12%)
3-1 (25-19, 25-22, 21-25, 25-20)

#10 McKendree (63%) def. #14 Lewis (37%)
3-2 (20-25, 25-18, 25-20, 22-25, 15-13)

How close was this match? Both teams hit .299%! That is how close it was.

MPSF

#2 UCLA (100%) def. Vanguard (0%)
3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-23)

#9 Pepperdine (58%) def. #11 Stanford (42%)
3-1 (25-22, 18-25, 25-20, 25-16)

Ryan Barnett (Pepperdine) continued his weekend of dominance against the Cardinal. With 19 kills yesterday, he brought his weekend total to 33.

#15 Grand Canyon (97%) def. Concordia (3%)
3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-16)

SIAC

Benedict (66%) def. LeMoyne-Owen (34%)
3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-14)

Edward Waters (79%) def. Morehouse (21%)
3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-16)

Edward Waters (82%) def. Morehouse (18%)
3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-19)

Non-conference

Thomas More (50%) def. D'Youville (50%)
3-0 (28-26, 25-19, 25-23)

Tusculum (41%) def. Charleston (59%)
3-2 (23-25, 27-25, 16-25, 25-23, 15-13)

Kevin Blankenship (Tusculum) had 52 assists to lead the Pioneers to a .353% hitting for the match. Morgan Makovec hit .600% and had 14 kills. And yes, Deklan Wingo continued to do Deklan Wingo things with 26 kills (.488%).

George Mason (79%) def. Merrimack (21%)
3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-21)

Sacred Heart (45%) def. Fairleigh Dickinson (55%)
3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-13, 25-20)

#6 BYU (85%) def. Harvard (15%)
3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-15)

#1 Long Beach (97%) def. #20 Princeton (3%)
3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-19)

Moni Nikolov lowered his average by only having 3 aces. I can’t believe that sentence is true.

Saint Francis (94%) def. Roberts Wesleyan (6%)
3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-17)

Roberts Wesleyan (69%) def. Saint Vincent (31%)
3-1 (25-23, 25-23, 23-25, 34-32)

Today's Match Projections

ECC

St. Thomas Aquinas (70%) vs Dominican (30%)

Non-conference

Jessup (69%) vs Simpson (31%)
