Just because it's a Sunday doesn't mean that there isn't great volleyball, and I'm not just talking about UC Irvine and Hawaii, part 2.
One reason I like the VBelo model is because sometimes it spits out numbers that I wouldn’t expect. For example, yesterday UCSD defeated Stanford. I think most people expected a solid matchup, which is what we got. The model gave UCSD a 41% chance of winning. That number is higher than the chance that it gave UC Irvine (40%) to defeat Hawaii on Friday. It’s not by much, but that was unexpected for me. Just another reason that a model is helpful: it helps removes biases (conscious and unconscious) that we have.
