Number of the Day
482 - Friday night marked the first ever match for the Northern Kentucky Norse. Brand new programs often struggle with attendance, but that was not the case for the Norse’s inaugural match. Their 482 fans were the 5th most of yesterday’s 22 matches. Who had more? BYU, Pepperdine, USC, & Hawaii. Not too shabby, Norse.
Yesterday’s Scores
Under Armour Challenge (@ Lindenwood)
Purdue Fort Wayne (79%) def. Menlo (21%)
3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-23)
Lindenwood (50%) def. CSUN (50%)
3-1 (23-25, 30-28, 28-26, 25-20)
This match delivered on the 50/50 hype. The MIVA is a force to be reckoned with this season. The only “upset” here is that I am upset with the coaches poll for overestimating the West Coast.
UC Invitational
Mount Olive (70%) def. Daemen (30%)
3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-23)
McKendree (67%) def. Charleston (33%)
3-1 (25-19, 25-23, 27-29, 25-23)
McKendree’s defense is next level. They had three players with 9 digs!
Non-conference
Long Beach (94%) def. George Mason (6%)
3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-15)
NJIT (70%) def. Jessup (30%)

Lees-McRae (6%) def. Catawba (94%)
3-1 (25-15, 24-26, 26-24, 25-21)
I was shocked by this result. This upset is definitely flying under the radar.
Roosevelt (51%) def. Barry (49%)
3-1 (15-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-22)
Saint Francis (93%) def. Northern Kentucky (7%)
3-1 (25-20, 18-25, 25-22, 25-23)
Harvard (96%) def. Manhattan (4%)
3-1 (25-21, 25-13, 17-25, 25-20)
BYU (65%) def. UC San Diego (35%)
3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-19)
UC Irvine (47%) def. Pepperdine (53%)
3-1 (25-23, 26-24, 22-25, 25-20)
In Set 2, UC Irvine was down by as much as 9 points (8-17). What happened? William D’Arcy and a handful of aces happened.
Concordia (79%) def. Springfield (21%)
3-0 (25-20, 25-19, 25-22)
Southern California (88%) def. Princeton (12%)
3-1 (25-17, 20-25, 26-24, 25-18)
I’m not fully convinced that Dillon Klein is human. Against the #18 team in the country, he had 27 kills and just 1 error (.650) in four sets. Impressive is an understatement.
UC Santa Barbara (94%) def. Master’s (6%)
3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-23)
Hawai’i (94%) def. Rockhurst (6%)
3-0 (25-19, 25-9, 25-15)
