CSUN finished off their East Coast trip with another win. The Matadors are not 7-2 with their eyes set on playing Cinderella later this season.

Let’s talk, briefly, about Jalen Phillips. The CSUN Opposite is off to a terrific start in his (redshirt) sophomore season. After putting up 22 kills against George Mason yesterday, he has now eclipsed the 20 kill mark three times this season and four times in his career. He already added an AVCA Player of the Week to his All-Big West Freshman Team accolades.
Nationally, Phillips is averaging around 10 attacks per set, which is good enough for 2nd among all players. But he not only gets the ball set to him a lot, he also gets the kills. Jalen Phillips currently leads the nation in kills/set! So yes, he is a force to be reckoned with.
The Big West is full of big names this year from top ranked teams: Nikolov, Henno, Rosenthal. But Phillips is showing that he belongs in that same tier of players. Not only that, but CSUN, who was voted to finish 5th in the Big West, cannot be underestimated. The Big West is absolutely living up to the “Big” in its name again this year.
