VBelo Daily: February 01, 2026
18 matches on Saturday and 0 matches today. It doesn't seem fair.
Number of the Day
18 - Even with the weather cancellations, we still had a solid 18 matches yesterday. For those counting at home, we have had 229 matches in the month of January. To celebrate the conclusion of the first month (and because I had time), I added a quick highlight from each match below. Enjoy!

Ryan Louis (Ball State) stepped up big time and led the Cardinals in both kills (13) and digs (6).
Non-conference
Jamestown (34%) def. Dordt (66%)
3-1 (25-22, 25-18, 22-25, 25-22)
Chase Hawkinson (Jamestown) powered the Jimmies to their first win of the season with 21 kills, career-high for the freshman.
Saint Francis (76%) def. Roberts Wesleyan (24%)

Kyle Charles (SFU) guided a powerful offense by putting up 43 assists and adding 12 digs in the win.
Barry (44%) def. Fort Valley State (56%)
3-2 (25-20, 17-25, 23-25, 25-17, 19-17)
I promise this isn’t just a Bobby Clapp (Barry) fan newsletter. But it’s not not that. He added 13 more digs yesterday. This was his 4th match with double-digit digs this season. Coming into this match, he was 3rd in the country in digs per set.
Vanguard (48%) def. Edward Waters (52%)
3-1 (25-14, 25-10, 30-32, 25-17)
Grant Veldman (VU) was an unstoppable force with his 17 kills and .583 hitting percentage.
Princeton (72%) def. St. Thomas Aquinas (28%)
3-0 (26-24, 25-21, 25-18)
Princeton was all about distributing the ball with 7 players getting multiple kills.
NJIT (86%) def. Fairleigh Dickinson (14%)
3-1 (25-20, 25-20, 21-25, 25-16)
Wiktor Nowak (NJIT) with the double-double (14 kill and 11 digs). This is his first of the season and second of his career.
Roosevelt (62%) def. Barton (38%)
3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-17)
Jonathan Stovring (Roosevelt) forgot what an error was yesterday and went 6-0-8 (.750). No big deal.
Master’s (44%) def. Concordia (56%)
3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-23)
Myles Henderson (CUI) had a nice efficient night, despite the loss. He went 8-2-17 as well as adding in 4 digs, 2 assists, 2 blocks, and an ace.
Arizona Christian (57%) def. UC Merced (43%)
3-2 (25-17, 25-27, 25-20, 27-29, 15-11)
Kaleb Cole and Mason Stokes (UCM) combined for 96 attacks. This was 60% of Merced’s attacks in the tough 5-set loss.
Hawai’i (65%) def. Penn State (35%)
3-1 (25-27, 25-10, 25-15, 38-36)
Kainoa Wade (Hawaii) made the most of the trip to the East Coast. He led all players with 21 kills yesterday (.450), tying a career high.
Sacred Heart (78%) def. Dominican (22%)
3-1 (25-21, 23-25, 25-21, 25-19)
Armaan Dosanjh (SHU) led the Pioneers (Pios?) with a strong double-double. 40 assists and 12 digs.
Loyola Chicago (69%) def. UC San Diego (31%)
3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 25-22, 25-22)
This Loyola lineup with Grad transfer Josh Schellinger is scary. He contributed 19 kills in just his fourth match of the season.
Lindenwood (63%) def. Missouri S&T (37%)
3-1 (23-25, 25-21, 25-18, 26-24)
Lindenwood was able to hold off the tough challenge due in large part to Brendan Louthain who had 17 kills and 3 aces.
Lewis (96%) def. Manhattan (4%)
3-0 (25-21, 29-27, 25-13)
A career-high night for Cameron Hoying (Lewis) who put up 19 kills with a very efficient .483 hitting percentage.
McKendree (91%) def. Rockhurst (9%)
3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 27-25, 25-21)
Boone Felts (McKendree) stepped up to help the Bearcats against a solid Rockhurst squad. He finished with 20 kills. The more that I see Rockhurst play, the more I believe that they have sky-high potential.
UC Irvine (98%) def. Stanford (2%)
3-2 (25-19, 22-25, 25-20, 19-25, 15-8)
So, Irvine is good. Cameron Kosty seems to be settling into the setter role. 44 assists and 7 digs isn’t too shabby. I’m sure this was the first time the other team’s coach had heard of him.
Today’s Match Projections
A day off? Weird. I don’t like it.

Good one regarding Stanford vs. UCI: “I’m sure this was the first time the other team’s coach had heard of him.” If anyone missed it, check out the player’s bio to see where his father is the head coach.
Some of these programs are fighting injuries or rotating players. In the older days, the name programs would still sweep BUT now there are more 💎 so matches are closer between 10 -40. What a month of volleyball 🏐 🤪
