Sharknado: LIU Sharks Take a Bite Out of the Flyers
Every day seems to hold new upsets in the volleyball world. From coast to coast, no one is safe and I am here for it.
For the first time in program history, the Long Island Sharks have defeated a ranked team. Yesterday, LIU traveled to Romeoville and defeated #12 Lewis 3-1. VBelo gave Long Island a 19% chance so this was a statement win. It is not surprising that LIU was picked to win the NEC in their pre-season poll. This was a great win for the Sharks and an even more important win for the NEC. They have their eyes set on getting an automatic qualifier for the national tournament in future years. Being able to show that the NEC can compete with the best will help their case even more.
Today is as busy of a Sunday as we will see this season. Not only does it feel like a treat to have matches, but there are some great matchups today. Hawaii is visiting Ball State for one match. Great things are happening at both of these programs, so I am excited about this match. We also have Ohio State and Penn State going at it again! This is going to be a great Sunday.
Here is a quick recap of yesterday's Three Intriguing Matches.
UC Irvine at BYU - The Anteaters pulled off the season sweep with the 5-set win in Provo. These were huge wins for UC Irvine and probably eye-opening for BYU.
NJIT vs Queens - This match also went to 5 sets and the Highlanders did indeed have enough in the tank to pull off the victory.
George Mason at Loyola - Loyola got the win in 4 sets. They were able to control most of the match to hold off the Patriots.

Match Projections
Non-conference
Ohio State (34%) vs Penn State (66%)
Hawai'i (79%) vs Ball State (21%)
D'Youville (79%) vs St. Thomas Aquinas (21%)
Charleston (84%) vs Tusculum (16%)
Queens (43%) vs Saint Francis (57%)
Saint Francis can give the NEC a win against another MIVA program. The NEC will need more performances like last night to gain the attention of volleyball fans coast to coast.
Each conference is it own snakepit but to measure up one must win versus those core 4 conferences.
