One Falls to Two in Three
Long Beach defends home court with a statement against the new-look Hawaii.
On a jam-packed Friday, the night ended with a much anticipated Big West matchup. #2 Long Beach hosted #1 Hawaii in the first of two conference matches this weekend. From beginning to end, Long Beach was in control. The home team outpaced the Rainbow Warriors in almost every stat.
It is clear that Hawaii is feeling the effects of losing a potential national player of the year candidate in Spyros Chakas. Looking at the current Big West rankings, there are going to be some really interesting battles to get to the national tournament. I wouldn’t be shocked if the Big West seeding is determined with the last two matches of the regular season. Long Beach and UC Irvine will play a home-and-home series on April 12th & 13th before the Big West Tournament starts on April 18th. Circle these matches on your calendar now.
It is probably worth pointing out that the Big West Tournament will be at Hawaii this year. Given recent events, the Rainbow Warriors may need all of their home-court advantage to secure a spot in the national tournament. Speaking of the national tournament, it is going to be hosted at Long Beach this year. The Beach is currently 13-0 at home this season, which bodes incredibly well for their post-season hopes and dreams.
